Summary: _
The Substance Abuse Prevention Counselor is responsible for the promotion, development, facilitation and evaluation of youth groups, presentations and programs offered by the Taylor Teen Health Center. These prevention programs are interactive and use educational activities, including but not limited to the arts, role-playing, and implementation of research-based curricula. The primary topics of the programs may include alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention, HIV, STD, and pregnancy prevention, self-esteem, anger management, communication skills and ways to deal with negative peer pressure. Other duties may include educational presentations in the schools, after-school and summer programming, participation in community meetings and events. The Substance Abuse Prevention Counselor may assist in oversight and guidance of Peer Educators, assessments and referrals for assigned clients, recruiting, training, and retaining of mentors.

Qualifications: _
Education: Bachelor's Degree in the human service field required (e.g., social work, psychology, education).
Experience : Two - four years experience working with youth/adolescents required.
Licensure: If applicable, based on the funding source, a passing score on the IC&RC exam required within six months of hire with a Bachelors Degree or Certification as Prevention Specialist/Consultant (CPS/CPC), and HIV/Communicable Diseases Training required within six months of hire or HIV Counseling, Testing and Referral (CTR) Certification.
Skills & Abilities: Strong background working with youth, especially in group settings. Ability to effectively communicate in a variety of settings. Strong public speaking skills. Highly motivated. Strong supervisory skills. Organizational and time management skills. Strong knowledge of group dynamics/process and adolescent/youth issues. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of grant funding and non-profit agencies.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
